What you can extract text from
Works on a printed page, a phone photo of a receipt or note, a screenshot, or a page from a book or magazine -- anything readable as an image. Multiple images are read in one pass and combined into a single .txt file, in the order you add them.
Why plain text instead of retyping it
Retyping a quote, a receipt, or a page of notes by hand is slow and easy to get wrong. This reads the image once and hands you plain text you can paste straight into a note, a search box, a spreadsheet cell, or an email -- no formatting to strip out, no typos to double-check.
Accuracy, handwriting, and language
Printed English text in reasonable lighting comes out accurately. Clear, tidy handwriting works reasonably well; messy handwriting, cursive, or very low-quality photos read less reliably -- OCR is doing its best guess, and it isn't perfect on hard cases. The free engine reads English only. For other languages, or a meaningfully better read on tough handwriting and messy scans generally, Image to Text (AI) uses an AI vision model instead, at a small per-use cost.
Getting a better result
Even, glare-free lighting; the page filling the frame and roughly flat to the camera; and holding steady to avoid blur all make a real difference. A slightly crooked photo is corrected automatically -- a blurry or badly lit one can't be.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

Does this support languages other than English?
Not yet -- the free on-device engine reads English only. For other languages, Image to Text (AI) uses an AI vision model that handles a wider range of languages.
How is this different from Image to Word?

Can I extract text from a screenshot?
Yes -- a screenshot works the same as a photo. The whole image is read, so crop out anything you don't want included first.
