These terms cover using Scanquil -- a free, browser-based scanning and document toolkit with a few optional paid-per-use AI features and optional cross-device sync. Last updated August 22, 2026.
By using Scanquil (the "Service"), available at scanquil.in, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
Scanquil is a free, browser-based toolkit for scanning, organizing, converting, and extracting text from documents and images. Most tools run entirely on your device using on-device optical character recognition -- no file is uploaded anywhere to use them. A separate set of tools, labeled "AI" throughout the app, sends a single image or a page's already-extracted text to a third-party cloud service for that one request, in exchange for meaningfully better accuracy on difficult scans. Which tools do this, and exactly what is sent, is described in our Privacy Policy.
Scanquil doesn't require -- or offer -- account creation, sign-in, or a password. Your groups, scanned pages, and extracted text are stored locally in your browser (using IndexedDB), on your device only, unless you explicitly turn on the optional Sync feature described below.
Because there's no account, there's no "forgot password" recovery for your local data either: if you clear your browser's site data, uninstall the app, or lose the device, anything not backed up (via Export) or actively synced is gone. This is a deliberate trade-off for not requiring an account, and it's your responsibility to export a backup of anything you don't want to risk losing.
Tools labeled "AI" in the app send either a single image or a page's already-extracted text to a third-party document-processing provider (currently Amazon Web Services' Textract service, or Anthropic's Claude API, depending on the tool) for the single request you make. We don't store a copy of what's sent on our own servers beyond what's needed to complete that request, and we don't use your content to train any model.
Most of these tools charge a small, pay-per-use fee, shown on the button itself before you tap it (e.g. "Pay ₹2 & Transcribe"), and collected via UPI through Razorpay at the moment you use the tool -- there is no subscription, credit balance, or account. The price reflects our actual cost from the underlying AI provider, plus a small margin, a payment processing fee, and GST; you always see the exact amount before paying. Ask AI (the text-based question-answering feature) remains free.
Payment is per single use of one tool, not a stored balance -- if the AI request itself fails after you've paid, we automatically refund that charge to the same payment method. If you close the app or lose connectivity partway through a multi-page job you've already paid for, pages not yet processed are not automatically refunded.
We never see or store your card, UPI ID, or other payment credentials -- Razorpay, our payment processor, handles the transaction directly and we only receive a payment/order reference to confirm it succeeded.
Output from these tools (extracted text, tables, or fields) is a best-effort automated result and may contain errors. Don't rely on it for decisions where accuracy is critical -- legal, medical, financial, or safety-related -- without independently verifying it against the original document.
Sync lets you carry specific groups between your own devices without creating an account. Turning it on generates a random code on your device; entering that same code on another device pairs the two. Sync stays off for every group until you explicitly turn it on for that group -- turning on the feature itself does not sync anything by itself.
Whoever holds the code can read and write whatever's been synced under it, so treat it like a password: anyone with it can access that data. There is no "forgot code" recovery. If the code is lost from every device that had it, data belonging only to that code is not recoverable by us or anyone else.
Turning sync off for a group on one device stops that device from sending or receiving further changes to it, but does not delete or affect copies already synced to other devices.
You agree not to: use Scanquil to process content that's illegal to possess or distribute in your jurisdiction; attempt to circumvent rate limits, usage caps, or the intended use of the AI or sync endpoints; probe, scan, or attempt to compromise the Service's infrastructure; or use the Service in a way that could disable, overburden, or impair it for other users.
You retain all rights to whatever you scan, upload, or create using Scanquil. We claim no ownership over it. Where a request is sent to a third-party AI/processing provider or to our sync infrastructure, that provider processes it solely to return the result to you, or to store it for your own future retrieval -- not for any other purpose by us.
Scanquil is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. OCR, text extraction, format conversion, and AI-assisted results can be inaccurate or incomplete; we don't guarantee accuracy, availability, or fitness for any particular purpose. Use of the output for any purpose -- especially one with legal, financial, medical, or safety consequences -- is at your own risk and should be independently verified.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Scanquil and its operator won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data -- including local data that was never backed up or synced -- arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms. Material changes will be reflected by an updated date on this page.
We may add, change, or remove features -- including the AI tools or Sync -- at any time, including because a third-party provider's terms or pricing change. We'll try to give notice for anything that would affect data you've already stored, but the Service overall is provided without guarantee of continued availability of any specific feature.
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Questions about these Terms can be sent to kiranjoshi.m@gmail.com.
No -- there's no sign-up, login, or password anywhere in the app.
Anything stored only locally (the default for everything) is deleted along with it. Export a backup first if you want to keep it, or turn on Sync for the groups you care about.
No. Treat it as a fast first pass and verify anything important against the original document.
